FG Partners YEIDEP to Create 12 Million Jobs for Nigerian Youths

In a significant move to tackle youth unemployment, the Federal Government has partnered with the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP) to generate 12 million jobs for Nigerian youths. This partnership, announced officially on March 6, 2025, is part of a broader initiative to provide sustainable economic opportunities and reduce youth unemployment across Nigeria.

Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, confirmed the partnership, emphasizing the importance of empowering young Nigerians economically. He explained, “Our aim is to create sustainable platforms where youths can become entrepreneurs, thus significantly reducing unemployment, alleviating poverty, and contributing positively to national development.”

Official Renaming of Programme

Originally named the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalisation Programme (NIYEEDEP), the initiative has now officially been renamed the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP). Minister Olawande stated the name change would foster a greater sense of ownership among youths, making the programme more relatable and accessible.

Targeting 12 Million Jobs

YEIDEP aims to create approximately 12 million new jobs, making it one of Nigeria’s largest youth-focused economic interventions ever. Over two million youths have already registered, showcasing strong enthusiasm and participation.

Focus Areas of YEIDEP

The programme covers diverse economic sectors designed to engage and equip Nigerian youths effectively:

  • Agriculture (Youth Farmers’ Cooperative Scheme): Providing support and resources for youths to develop agricultural enterprises.
  • Technology (Tech4Jobs): Training youths in digital skills and technology-driven ventures.
  • Creative Arts (Arts4Money): Monetizing creative talents and artistic skills.
  • Vocational Skills (Skills2Job): Delivering practical vocational training tailored to current job market demands.
  • Food Security (Food4All Initiative): Boosting local food production and enhancing food availability.

Strong Initial Interest

The programme has quickly gained traction, with over two million youths already registering to participate. Comrade Kennedy Iyere, a coordinator of YEIDEP, stressed its importance, noting, “This initiative is essential for Nigeria’s economic recovery, security, and overall social stability.”

Banks such as Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, and First Bank have partnered with YEIDEP, providing financial services to ensure youths have the necessary capital and resources to succeed.

Youths interested in participating in YEIDEP can register through its official website, making it accessible to all eligible Nigerians.

The Federal Government expects YEIDEP to significantly reduce poverty, stimulate economic growth, and enhance national security by actively engaging young Nigerians in productive economic activities.
